Businesswomen launch female accounting network in style

Donna Walker and Selina Bocskei – managers at Yorkshire accountancy firm Robertshaw Myers – had more than a few issues with their local networking opportunities. As well as being male dominated, structured and formulaic, they tended to play up to a stereotypical image of accountants as dull, uninteresting people. Clearly, something needed to be done to realign local, female professionals with a cachet of youth and sparkle.

With that gap in the market duly spotted, Donna and Selina set up their own event – the Robertshaw Myers Women’s Networking Group. Its aim: to foster links between like-minded businesswomen who want to share ideas, learn from each other and build a collective enthusiasm for careers and the workplace.

The choice of venue for the first meeting immediately set the bar high. Held at the Dales-set Grassington House Hotel – a Robertshaw Myers client – the understated luxury of the restaurant and bar made an ideal atmosphere for setting the tone of an exclusive, and yet relaxed, event. The four-course lunch and Delights of Desserts demonstration with master chef John Rudden didn’t go amiss either.

According to Donna and Selina, ‘The event was extremely well received by our guests, all of whom are interested in being involved with the group going forward.’

Attendee Jane Ellison-Bates, managing director of Manifest Marketing, added: ‘As a fan of networking, I think the event showed Robertshaw Myers at its best – I met some really inspirational women who I will be happy to recommend clients and friends to.’
