Salary guide: How much does a financial controller earn?

For a financial controller that's still a bit wet behind the ears, the starting salary is still very competitive. You can expect to take home £35,000 in your first year at a small company and as much as £20,000 in a large organisation.

For a financial controller with three to five years experience, the remuneration package varies from £40,000 to £50,000 at an SME. If you work for a big company, however, this can go up to £65,000.

Once you have reached the six to nine year category, you can expect to earn up to £60,000 with a small to mid-market firm and salaries peak at around £70,000 in companies with large finance departments.

For financial controllers with 15 or more years experience, you salary could could hit £80,000 and above, depending on the size of your employer.
